| Personal Information |
| Born in
the backyards of Maharashtra, in a small village
called Gangapur, on 17th July, 1951, Dr. Hiremath
was the 4th in a family of 5 brothers and
2 sisters. His
father, possibly, the biggest figure in
his life, was a Superintending Mechanical
Engineer working at the Gangapur Dam. With
constant transfers in the government service,
the family led an almost nomadic existence,
till the patriarch decided to settle in
Pune.
This migration to the
cultural and educational seat of Maharashtra
was just the thing needed to boost the academic
career of the young boy. A bright student,
Dr.Hiremath studied at the Modern High School.
Both his parents, influenced their son's
mindset to a large extent. While his mother,
imprinted on the minds of her children,
the need to study well, and pursue a successful
career; Dr. Hiremath's personal work style,
to date, retains largely the mark of his
father - the generosity of soul, the strength
of character, the sheer hardworking professional.

| Academic/ Work Details |
From Modern High School to
Fergusson College to BJ Medical College, Dr
Hiremath was climbing the 1st steps towards
a successful and dedicated life. In 1977,
he completed his MD in General Medicine and
went on to do DM Cardiology from Sion Hospital,
Mumbai in 1981. Here, he worked under Dr.
M. J. Gandhi, Dr. A. B. Mehta and Dr. D. B.
Pehelajani. Looking back, he sees this as
a sheer coincidence that 3 of the biggest
names in the Indian Cardiology should have
worked together, at one place, at one time
and that he had had the opportunity to observe
them from such close quarters. While working
with these dedicated medicos, that Dr. Hiremath's
work fabric which he inherited from his parents,
was getting reiterated.
There is never any shortcut to a successful
career says this 50-something dynamo, as he
shuttles between operations, hospitals and
patients. Hard work has no option, and a good
doctor practices patience, the back-breaking
hours notwithstanding! So, with a keen interest
in the latest developments in the cardiac
field, his experience substantiated through
handling of tough cases, his knowledge tried
and tested, Dr. Hiremath decided to come back
to Pune. In 1981, he started his clinic at
Model Colony. |
|
| He is married to Dr. Leena.
Dr Leena Hiremath is a renowned pediatrician.
Educated in some of the premier institutes
of Pune, her educational career is dotted
with top honors and gold medals marking her
achievements. She completed her MBBS from
BJ Medical College, and secured the Pfizer
gold medal in the last year. Currently she
is an honorary pediatrician at the Jehangir
hospital, where she worked at the medical
center for 13 years. She has also been a lecturer
and reader at the Dept of Pediatrics at the
Sassoon Hospital. She was the Secretary of
the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Pune branch
for 2 years. Her special field of interest
is asthma in children. |

| Vision |
His vision as a doctor, is
a reflection of his personality as a human
being first, and his professional aspirations,
next. The singular reason being the humane
level on which he relates to his patients.
He is candid enough to admit that due to constraints
of time and in the best of interests of his
patients, he needs to be more a cerebral professional.
But this feeling medico aims to:
- Contribute in the field of Cardiology
to a level that most of the cardiac patients
live longer and happier life.
- Contribute to the advancement of technique
in angioplasty.
- Translate into effort, any ideas for
the betterment of heart patients.
- Use local drug delivery system, to
avoid re-narrowing of the artery after
angioplasty.
- Contribute to advance research in balloon
technology for wider application of Angioplasty.
- Advance use of Gene therapy.
- Reduce the surgical nature of the treatment
and enable the surgeons to perform less
invasive and traumatic Bypasses.
