1.
Echocardiogram (ECG or EKG)
The contraction of the heart occurs due to electrical impulses that are generated within the heart. ECG measures the heart rhythms and electrical impulses.

2.

Stress Test
Stress test is generally performed for someone who has chest pain. It is also done for those patients at risk for coronary artery disease e.g. those with diabetes, high blood pressure and positive family history. Healthy individuals who want to go mountaineering, trekking, etc. following heart attacks, and post surgical heart patients also need to have stress tests. Stress tests may be repeated at regular intervals so as to follow the heart’s performance.

3.

Holter Monitor
This is a small device which is attached to the patient.

It is non-invasive, reliable and can be used while the patient does his/her daily chores. It helps detect arrhythmias (irregular heart beats and palpitations). It
also detects the "silent" heart attack.

It may be used in lieu of stress test to detect ischemia (decreased blood supply to the heart through the coronary arteries) during day to day activities. Existing
devices mostly record "twenty-four" hour activity and then perform off-line record analysis.
